Dear MetroPlusHealth Providers,

MetroPlusHealth reminds all participating providers and office staff who have regular and substantial contact with MetroPlusHealth members that the annual Cultural Competency Training is required pursuant to New York State Department of Health requirements.

This requirement remains in effect for the 2026 calendar year. While updates to the federal Think Cultural Health training have been pending, approved training and attestation pathways have remained available. Providers are expected to comply with the annual training requirement and maintain documentation demonstrating completion.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Think Cultural Health e-learning platform remains available for providers and staff to satisfy the annual Cultural Competency Training requirement.

Behavioral Health Providers

Behavioral Health providers may complete approved cultural and linguistic competency training through available state-approved programs, including:

• Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) Cultural Competence Curriculum and Using the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI)
• New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) approved Cultural Competency trainings

Providers should retain proof of completion for all training activities.

Attestation and Documentation Requirements

Cultural Competency Training must be completed annually by December 31, 2026.

MetroPlusHealth Attestation Link

Providers who completed qualifying Cultural Competency Training through another managed care organization during the current calendar year are not required to repeat the training; however, a valid attestation of completion is required. MetroPlusHealth also accepts alternative state-approved attestations that are valid for the reporting year.

Providers are responsible for maintaining documentation of training completion or attestation and must provide such documentation upon request. An attestation form is available on the MetroPlusHealth website.
