What does Child Health Plus cover in New York?

Covered medical services include:

  • Preventative health services and physical exams
  • Diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury
  • Physical and occupational therapy
  • Radiation, chemotherapy and hemodialysis
  • Outpatient or inpatient treatment for mental health conditions and substance use disorders
  • Obstetric and gynecological services
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Speech therapy
  • Emergency room visits, hospital admissions and ambulance services
  • Diabetic equipment and supplies and diabetes management education
  • Required durable medical equipment (i.e. hearing aids, prosthetics, nebulizers, wheelchairs, etc.)
  • Emergency, preventive and routine dental and vision care
  • Speech and hearing services
  • Hospice services

Can undocumented children get health insurance?

Yes, all New York children can get Child Health Plus, regardless of immigration status

Does Child Health Plus cover non-residents?

Yes, Child Health Plus covers non-resident children in New York.

 

Does Child Health Plus have out of pocket costs?

There are no copays or deductibles for covered services. Depending on your income, you may have to pay a monthly premium.

 

Which providers accept Child Health Plus?

There are many in-network options when it comes to choosing a doctor. Use MetroPlusHealth’s “Find a Doctor” tool to find an in-network provider.

 

I’m unemployed. Can I sign my child up for Child Health Plus?

Yes, your child is still eligible for Child Health Plus.

Does Child Health Plus cover vision and dental services?

Yes, Child Health Plus covers preventive and routine dental and vision care, including a pair of glasses each year.

Does Child Health Plus cover prescription drugs?

Yes, Child Health Plus covers medically necessary, FDA-approved prescription drugs.

 

Does my child have to be a citizen or a green card holder to qualify?

No, children are eligible regardless of citizenship status.

When can I enroll my child?

Enrollment is open year-round.

How do I enroll my child?

Call us at 866.496.6636 (TTY: 711). To begin with one of our enrollment specialists, please make sure you have 30 minutes to an hour set aside to get through the process.

How do I pay my premium if I have one?

You can make your premium payments online or by mail.
