Who’s eligible for Child Health Plus?

Child Health Plus is a health insurance plan for children under the age of 19 who do not qualify for Medicaid and who do not have other health insurance coverage. Additionally, eligible children must live in New York State and can’t be eligible for other state benefit programs, such as the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP).

There are also family income requirements that must be met to be eligible. The current income limits are:

  • $60,240 for a family of one
  • $81,760 for a family of two
  • $103,280 for a family of three
  • $124,800 for a family of four

Have a happy new addition to the family? You may be wondering how to add a newborn to insurance. If you have a baby, you will need to update your insurance. Newborns are covered the first day of the month the child is born in, as long as the family applies for and is determined eligible within 60 days of birth. Newborns will automatically be enrolled into the same plan that their siblings are enrolled in.

It’s important to note that citizenship is not a requirement for Child Health Plus. Children can be eligible regardless of their immigration status.
